Travel Update

Travel Update

As closing time came...

So for some reason as I sent the last update off it cut off the final sentence. I guess God wanted me to send off one more update before we go. Just before closing time for the visa office, our final two visas arrived...also only one year visas. :) Of course! But we went back to the farm we're staying at and booked our seven airline tickets for Tuesday, May 6th, anyway. We're finally going to India. Of course, we then found out two days later that for really no reason whatsoever we only had five tickets instead of seven.
And that has been our story the whole way. It was hard to get Sophie's adoption completed. It was hard to get her papers back so we could apply for a passport. Then her passport came back with a mistake. Then the visas turned into an absolute nightmare that eventually necessitated the 1,000+ mile drive to Houston. It was hard selling our stuff. People would agree to show up to buy it and then just never show up...sometimes they would then get mad when you sold it to someone else. Every single step of the way has just been HARD. I read today a man that asked a number of successful CEO's what their secret to success was and they overwhelmingly replied, "I didn't quit." Even here in an air conditioned house on a small farm in Houston, the temptation exists. Just give up, do something else, you know it's not going to get any easier in India. And every day presents a new opportunity, a new reason to just quit. And we smile and just keep on anyway.
Last Sunday we were in a Sunday school class. If you had been there you would have heard us talk about how hard it can be to pray. Distractions fill the mind, you squirm and fidget, you worry about what people around you might think. This week we've gotten impatient at times, gotten upset at small frustrations, said things we later regretted...in other words, we're still all too human. So why did God call us? Because we're weak and human and anything accomplished through us will bring Him all the glory. And by His grace, we're not going to quit. We're going to keep on no matter what. So next Tuesday, unless something else happens, we're getting on a plane to India.

Quick note: Jeanette has said she feels she should be more in the background of things and asked us to take her name and picture off the newsletter. She's still very much part of the team, just less visible. Please continue to pray for all of us, that is what we most need from each of you. This month we need prayers for wisdom. Our pastor friend in India has devised a grueling schedule for the first six months.

Please feel free to email us or contact us on Facebook, or even send us a letter at:

We love to hear from you and would love to hear how we could pray for you as well.
